Las Vegas Radiology has a 64 slice PET-CT. PET-CT is similar to SPECT-CT but uses a different radioactive tracer. It is also injected into the patient and tracked by extremely sensitive detectors followed by a CT image to see increase diagnostic accuracy. It is mostly used for detecting and analyzing tumors because of its high resolution.
Las Vegas Radiology has installed the latest Siemens TrueV PET-CT. This new technology system is exclusive to the University of California and Las Vegas Radiology at this time – unavailable anywhere else in the entire West Coast. The first system ever to combine true volumetric CT with Siemens exclusive, groundbreaking technology – true volumetric PET., with the highest resolution of PET configuration, to allow for imaging virtually all organ systems, including cardiac PET-CT. Las Vegas Radiology is proud to be the first in Nevada to have this incredible technology.

What is a PET-CT scan?
PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and CT (Computed Tomography) studies are both standard imaging tools that physicians use to pinpoint disease states in the body. A PET scan demonstrates biological function of the body while the CT scan provides information about the body’s anatomy.Alone, each imaging test has particular benefits and limitations but when both scans – PET and CT – are performed on the same scanner and at the same time, the combined image provides complementary information which enables physicians to more accurately diagnose and identify cancer, heart disease and brain disorders.
How does PET-CT work?
When disease occurs, the biochemistry of the body’s tissue and cells change. In some diseases, like cancer, the metabolic activity of the malignant cells increases, thus requiring higher glucose uptake and utilization. When the small amount of FDG (radioactive glucose analog) is injected into the patient, it travels through the body and accumulates in cells which then emit signals that are captured by the PET-CT scanner and then transformed into images of biological function.
Thanks to our extended PET field of view, Las Vegas Radiology can acquire images twice as fast as with a traditional PET-CT Scan, without sacrificing image quality. High-resolution, high-speed images result in dramatically increased patient comfort.
Siemens TrueV PET-CT allows Las Vegas Radiology to collect 78% more data, you can reduce the amount of each injected dose by as much as 50%. Lower exposure translates into higher levels of patient safety, especially important for pediatric patients.
